do no harm:

idit dobb-weinstein: "teaching is action and thinking at once. What I try to guard against most when I teach is not speaking as if my answer were conclusive, so as to avoid (to the extent possible) any kind of dogmatic appropriation. It is understandable why students might wish to imitate their teachers, but there are different modes of imitation. I try very hard to avoid the mimetic appropriation that is immediate, passive, and occludes thinking. One other reason is that if I made clear what my views were, and my views appeared as if they were final, it would preclude the possibility of first, students challenging me and second, learning from my students. The relation between the student and teacher is, to me, a dynamic relationship . . . Teaching and learning is a movement that occurs between. In other words, we are at once both agent and patient, both teacher and learner. If we are not very careful, we can do a great deal of harm. And that, too, I have learned from my teachers, Maimonides especially.

I believe my task is to provoke students to think and to engage them in genuine dialogue and questioning. To paraphrase a rabbinic saying, 'I have learned from my teachers, and I have learned from my peers, but I have learned most from my students.' And that is a continuous process of learning."

1984 & anthropologie! & a game of "protect the abuse!"

well even though the faux administration does really very close to nothing, the district was kind of nice to pass my phone number to jamillah moore's assistant annette.  and then it was like"would you like to talk to cristy passman?" and i am like---well---i have been for 1.5 years and she does nothing but protect abuse and actually verbally tries to coerce me out of complaining, and ridicule me and peer pressure me into accepting harassment "normally people take these things in stride" or "if the boys are getting off" then the unequal sexist language is okay.

passing my number around like a hot potato!
telemarketing me but doing nothing!
thickets of non-communicative bureaucracy doing nothing, inefficiently!

isn't it weird when a woman is highly educated and an attorney and knows the civil rights law she's supposed to enforce, and yet tries to offer some cultural expectation of subservience and submission.

i think its CREEPY! and that is why i am reporting cristy passman for incompetence and obstruction of justice and protection of harassment on LACC campus.  i am reporting this to the OCR and chancellors, not because i feel that bureaucratic agencies are efficient or effective, but because there must be a paper trail for the future.

whether there is a lawsuit, or an even more egregious indemnity, it is important that the blogosphere and the bureaucrats know that women are second class citizens at LACC and that their defender, the ombudsman for discrimination, actually protects the discrimination.

it's very 1984.
and that the LACCD counsel would limply try to get me to delete my blog, is funny.  like destroy evidence funny.

and that eckford in social sciences would try to coerce me into deleting my blog and tell me that writing letters was unacceptable----wow!!!!  smacks of stalinist era repression.  Send her to siberia!  cut off her fingers! gag her!!  well . . . .

the reason why i had so much hope originally, was that with the sexist talk in the legal department, the men are so old-fashioned and pathetically anti-woman that it seemed beyond repair.  i thought they would be promptly fired or reprimanded.

but when anthropology broke out with a bad case of curse word-itus and sexist vernacular, i thought hey wait a minute.
isn't modern day anthropology  supposed to be about cultural understanding?

well obviously not!
that is merely the thin veneer people use to mask their prejudice and sexism.

so that's really creepy.
to colonize women within the classroom, so that they are afraid to speak bc they are constantly shot down and subject to epithetical unequal verbal abuse.
shame!!!!!

shame!

and my allegation that this is profferred from PHD with a very expensive degree who talks down to LACC students saying we should read in a very condescending tone implying that we are stupid and illiterate and then pawn off all this foul cursing and epithets at us as though we are too stupid to notice . . .
to me the effect is that there are two quality standards---the bad community college edition and the upscale expensive school edition.

and the  trashy talk speaks with such condescending classism and sexism and racism as well.   panderer! as though sexism is okay in any linguistic derivative for any crowd.

as if!

later, enjoy!
